Teaching children about the 5 Pillars of Islam, the 6 Pillars of Iman, and Ihsan is essential in helping them develop a strong foundation in faith. These three aspects form the core of a Muslim’s life, shaping their beliefs, character, and daily practices. By introducing these concepts in an engaging and interactive way, we nurture their love for Islam and strengthen their connection with Allah.
The 5 Pillars of Islam (Practices of a Muslim)
The 5 Pillars of Islam are the key acts of worship that every Muslim must follow:
Shahadah (Faith Declaration) – Teaching children to affirm, “There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His Messenger.”
Salah (Prayer) – Encouraging them to establish daily prayers and understand its importance.
Zakah (Charity) – Instilling generosity by teaching them to help those in need.
Sawm (Fasting in Ramadan) – Teaching patience and self-discipline through fasting.
Hajj (Pilgrimage to Makkah) – Introducing the significance of this spiritual journey of faith.
The 6 Pillars of Iman (Faith)
Iman (faith) is the foundation of a Muslim’s belief, consisting of:
Belief in Allah – Understanding that Allah is the one and only God, full of mercy and wisdom.
Belief in the Angels – Teaching children that angels are Allah’s creations who carry out His commands.
Belief in the Books of Allah – Learning about the Quran and previous scriptures revealed to Prophets.
Belief in the Prophets – Knowing about the noble messengers Allah sent to guide humanity.
Belief in the Day of Judgment – Understanding that our actions will be judged and we should strive for goodness.
Belief in Qadar (Divine Decree) – Accepting that everything happens by Allah’s will, whether good or bad.
Ihsan (Excellence in Worship and Character)
Ihsan is the highest level of faith, teaching us to worship Allah as if we see Him. It encourages sincerity, kindness, and excellence in our actions. When children learn Ihsan, they develop good character, always striving to do their best—whether in worship, helping others, or being truthful.
By teaching these essential aspects of Islam in a fun and engaging way—through stories, games, and hands-on activities—children will grow up with a strong connection to their faith. This knowledge will guide their hearts, shape their character, and inspire them to live a life of devotion, kindness, and righteousness.
